CAKE
- 2 C. flour
- 2 C. sugar
- 1 stick butter or margarine
- 3 Tbsp. cocoa
- 1 C. water
- 1/2 C. Crisco
- 1/2 C. buttermilk (add 1 Tbsp. white vinegar to 1/2 C. milk)
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla
Mix flour and sugar together in a bowl. In a saucepan, melt butter, add cocoa, water and Crisco. Bring to boil and pour over flour and sugar. Mix well and add milk, eggs, baking soda and vanilla. Bake in an ungreased jellyroll pan at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
FROSTING
- 1 stick butter
- 3 Tbsp. cocoa
- 3 Tbsp. milk
- 1 box conf. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla
- 1 C. chopped walnuts
In a pan, melt butter and warm milk, then mix in remaining ingredients. Let cake stand for 5-10 minutes before frosting. Keep frosting over warm heat while spreading.
